Privacy policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

Burny is a calorie and macro tracking app. For privacy questions or requests, contact the developer at support@burnyapp.com.

Data on your device

Foods, meals, recipes, favourites, goals and settings are stored locally on your device. Burny does not require an account, operate a server storing your food log, or include advertising or third-party analytics. Local summaries are shared with Burny’s widgets on the same device to display your calories and macros.

Burny does not provide its own automatic online database synchronisation. Device backups and Apple Health synchronisation may be handled by Apple depending on your device and iCloud settings.

Apple Health

With your permission, Burny reads active and resting energy, workouts, weight, body fat percentage and lean body mass to calculate goals, estimates and progress charts. It can write nutritional information from logged meals to Apple Health. Health data is processed on your device and is not sent to the developer, advertisers or an AI service.

You can refuse or revoke individual permissions in Apple Health or iOS settings. Manual food tracking remains available without Health access.

Food searches and barcode scanning

Searching for a product or looking up a scanned barcode sends your search terms or barcode to Open Food Facts. The service receives the technical information needed for the request, including your IP address and Burny’s app identification. Burny does not send your food log or Health history with these requests. Barcode scanning uses the camera to read the code; it does not upload the camera image to Open Food Facts.

See the Open Food Facts privacy policy.

Optional photo analysis and sharing

You can take a photo or choose one using Apple’s photo picker. Burny prepares a prompt that you can copy and lets you share the photo through the iOS share sheet. It does not automatically upload the photo to an AI service. If you choose to send the photo, prompt or notes to ChatGPT or another app, that service processes what you send under its own terms and privacy settings. Burny does not send your Health history as part of this flow.

For ChatGPT, see OpenAI’s privacy policy. You can choose not to use photo analysis.

Backup exports

Exporting creates a file containing your Burny data. You choose where to save or share it, including iCloud Drive or another provider. The file can contain personal nutrition information: keep it private. Burny does not send the export to the developer.

Optional support purchases

Apple processes in-app payments. Burny receives the product and transaction information needed to verify and acknowledge a purchase on your device. The developer does not receive your payment card details or associate purchases with your food log or Health data.

Retention and deletion

Local records remain until you delete them, replace them through an import or delete the app’s data from your device. Deleting the app removes its local container, but does not automatically remove separately exported files, device backups or records already written to Apple Health. Manage these separately in Files, your backup settings and Apple Health. Revoking Health access stops future access; it does not erase existing records.

The developer cannot access, export or delete your local food log remotely. For data sent to an external service, use that service’s privacy and deletion controls.

Support messages and this website

If you email support, your address, message and attachments are processed to respond to your request and kept only as long as needed to handle it and any applicable obligations. You can request access, correction or deletion by emailing the same address.

This static website does not add cookies, tracking scripts or analytics. The website is hosted by Vercel, which processes technical request information, including IP addresses, to deliver and secure the site. See Vercel’s privacy notice.
